Building Trust Through the Mind of Christ
Trust, Pride, and Our Dependence on God
One of the greatest struggles in life is maintaining trust—whether in God, in ourselves, or in our relationships. When trust is lost or weak, we naturally fall back on our own understanding, and pride often takes over. Instead of seeking wisdom, we justify our own actions, which can lead to unnecessary struggles, division, and frustration.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) reminds us:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Without trust in God as our foundation, we become like the Israelites in the time of Judges:
Judges 21:25 (NIV)
"In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes."
When we act in our own wisdom rather than God’s, we risk creating messes that we later have to deal with. But when we trust in the Lord, surrendering our will to His, we walk in wisdom and avoid many pitfalls caused by pride.
The Role of Trust in Relationships
Trust is the foundation of every strong relationship—whether with our spouse, children, parents, siblings, or friends. When trust is broken, pride often convinces us that we are right, and instead of seeking reconciliation, we justify our actions. This only leads to more division and hurt.
Proverbs 13:10 (NIV)
"Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice."
Even in marriage and family, trust is essential. Without it, we act based on fear, insecurity, or personal pride rather than love and humility. The Bible teaches us to submit to one another in love:
Ephesians 5:21 (NIV)
"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ."
When we walk in humility, trusting God and one another, we create an environment where trust can flourish.
When Trust is Broken: The Path to Restoration
Trust is hard to regain once lost. It is built through consistency, honesty, and reliability, and when these are compromised, it can feel like the foundation of a relationship has been shattered.
Proverbs 25:19 (NIV) warns us:
"Like a broken tooth or a lame foot is reliance on the unfaithful in a time of trouble."
However, God specializes in restoring what is broken—including trust. If both parties are willing, trust can be rebuilt through repentance, humility, and a commitment to change.
Psalm 147:3 (NIV)
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
Even when human relationships fail, God’s mercy never does. He is always ready to restore and heal, leading us to a place of renewed trust and love.
Living with the Mind of Christ
The truth is, on our own, we can do nothing. Without God teaching us these truths from His Word, we are unequipped to handle relationships well and often fall into frustration.
Jesus reminds us in John 15:5 (NIV):
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
We must rely on the Holy Spirit for patience, wisdom, and guidance. When we pray for help, He strengthens us—even when our faith is weak.
Mark 9:24 (NIV)
"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
Repentance is key. None of us are perfect. We will disobey, make mistakes, and fall short. But when we repent, God’s mercy is new every morning, giving us the grace to do better.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)
"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
When we live with the mind of Christ, we extend grace to others, practice humility, and seek God’s wisdom rather than relying on ourselves.
Philippians 2:5 (KJV)
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."
Conclusion: Trusting God Transforms Everything
When we trust in the Lord, allow Him to shape our hearts, and follow His wisdom in relationships, we experience peace, healing, and restoration. It is only through the mind of Christ that we can truly love, forgive, and rebuild trust in a way that glorifies God.
As we humble ourselves, seek God’s guidance, and rely on His Spirit, we will find that trust—though fragile—can be restored. And through that restoration, we become living witnesses of God’s grace at work.

"Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God."

Prayer of Surrender: Trusting God Fully
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with open hands and an open heart, surrendering all that I am and all that I hold onto. I confess that too often, I have relied on my own understanding, allowing pride and fear to guide my steps instead of trusting in You. Lord, I lay down my need for control, my worries, my doubts, and my past hurts at Your feet.
Teach me to trust You completely, knowing that apart from You, I can do nothing. Strengthen my faith, Lord, that I may walk in obedience and humility, reflecting the mind of Christ in all my relationships. When trust is broken, give me the grace to forgive and the patience to rebuild. When I fall short, remind me of Your mercies that are new every morning.
Holy Spirit, guide my heart, renew my mind, and help me to love as You love. Fill me with the peace that surpasses all understanding, and let my life be a testimony of Your faithfulness. May I walk in Your wisdom, trusting that You are always at work for my good.
I surrender all to You, Lord—my fears, my burdens, my plans, and my heart. Have Your way in my life, and let my trust in You be unwavering.
