This first article will explore:
✅ The universal human search for God
✅ Why belief in God is not an invention but a revelation
✅ The difference between knowing about God vs. knowing Him personally.
Introduction: The Question That Leads to Truth
Many people ask, "Who thought up God?" Some believe that God is merely a human invention, a way to explain the unknown. But if that were true, why does every culture, from the beginning of history, have a concept of the divine? Why do we feel an inner longing for something greater than ourselves?
The Bible provides the answer:
"He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
This verse reveals that our desire for God is not something we created—it is something He placed within us.
1. The Universal Human Longing for God
Every civilization, no matter how ancient, has recognized the existence of a divine power. From the Egyptians to the Mayans, from the Israelites to the Greeks, all societies have worshiped a higher being.
If God were simply a human idea, why would this belief be so universal?
The Bible tells us that:
Creation itself testifies to God’s existence (Romans 1:20).
Our moral conscience points to a divine Lawgiver (Romans 2:14-15).
The human soul yearns for something beyond this life (Psalm 42:1).
This longing exists because we were created for relationship with God.
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:13)
2. God Was Not "Thought Up"—He Revealed Himself
Unlike human mythology, where gods are created to explain natural forces, the God of the Bible is self-existent, eternal, and beyond human imagination.
Genesis 1:1 – "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." (God existed before creation.)
Exodus 3:14 – "I AM WHO I AM." (God defines Himself, not humans.)
John 1:1-3 – "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (Jesus, the Living Word, existed before time.)
If God was just a human invention, why would He be so radically different from the gods of mythology?
Unlike man-made gods, the God of the Bible:
✅ Is eternal (not born, not created)
✅ Is self-sufficient (does not need worship but desires relationship)
✅ Is personal (not distant, but deeply involved in our lives)
This is why God is not an idea—we did not create Him. He revealed Himself to us.
3. Knowing About God vs. Knowing God Personally
Many believe in God, but few truly know Him. Even the demons acknowledge God’s existence (James 2:19), yet they do not follow Him.
Jesus made it clear that knowing about God is not enough:
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)
Religious people know about God—but do they know His heart?
Many profess faith—but have they truly surrendered to Christ?
God is calling us beyond knowledge—into a personal relationship with Him.
4. The Call to Seek God for Ourselves
God does not want us to rely on secondhand faith. We must seek Him personally.
"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him." (Psalm 34:8)
How do we move from knowing about God to knowing Him personally?
✅ Seek Him in the Word (John 5:39-40)
✅ Pray and listen to His voice (John 10:27)
✅ Surrender fully to Jesus (Luke 9:23)
✅ Be filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
Conclusion: Will You Answer the Call?
God is not an idea or an invention—He is real, personal, and calling us to Himself.

Prayer for Seeking God
Heavenly Father,
You have placed eternity in our hearts, a longing that only You can satisfy. Remove every doubt, every distraction, and every false idea that keeps us from knowing You. Reveal Yourself to us, not just as an idea, but as the living God who calls us into relationship. Open our hearts to seek You with all that we are, to trust in Your truth, and to walk in the light of Your presence.
We desire to know You, Lord—not just about You, but to truly know You. Draw us close by Your Spirit, and let our lives reflect Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
